How to save money during medical recoveries

How to save money during medical recoveries
Recently I had to undergo surgery and it opened my eyes to the costs, as well as ways to lower the costs of medical recovery. It was far more expensive than I would have liked it to be, but I know that next time I have a recovery to get through, I will save time, energy and money that I won’t have excess of after a medical procedure. With over fifteen million Americans getting surgery each year, it is good to be aware of how to save yourself and your wallet while you recover.

If you are like me and have a family that relies on you to feed them, or you are feeding just yourself, one of the greatest expenses could be food if it’s not thought out. I knew when I was having my surgery, which over eighty percent will as well, so that gives us plenty of time to rethink our menu. Better yet, do what I did and make up some easy frozen meals to keep you and your family going. The first few days I couldn’t manage to stay upright long enough to cook, so anything you can throw in the oven, crockpot or microwave is a win. Steer clear of unhealthy processed versions, making your own and saving big.

What you have on hand should be different. If you can only have broth and other fluids after and before your surgery, make sure to have those on hand. You will not want to send people out for your needs, likely picked up quick and local for a premium. If you have a variety of drinks and snacks you like that you can handle the first few days, it will go a long way to your recovery and happiness.
