We must act quickly to oppose the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) proposed stricter standards on Particulate Matter (PM).

Here are three ways this policy could impact your family:

•Bad Timing: The current reconsideration of the PM standards is discretionary and not required by the Clean Air Act. With economic uncertainty looming, adding expensive red tape that could hamper the economy is unnecessary.

•Increased Costs: Compliance with stricter standards could put increased pressure on the costs of goods and services, making it harder for businesses and families to make ends meet.

•Impacts on Businesses and the Economy: The EPA’s proposal could result in as much as a 32-fold increase in counties not meeting the EPA’s proposed standards, which could burden state and local governments, threaten our global competitiveness, and impact consumers.

The air quality standards currently in place are already working. Since 2010, there has been a 14% improvement in national average PM concentrations. This issue is not a question of balancing public health and environmental concerns with economic production. Under the current standards, we can continue to have both.

Stand up today and join us in protecting the economy by telling the EPA to keep its current standards.
