“Do-nothing” budget vetoed. After refusing to work with Democrats, Republican lawmakers passed a one-sided continuation budget on a razor thin majority. Their proposal failed to address the urgent issues Arizonans are facing, instead putting off solutions to the difficult choices our state faces for sometime in the future. Gov. Hobbs vetoed the budget on Thursday, calling lawmakers to come to the table and pass a budget that prioritizes the water crisis, funding for education, affordable housing, and rising costs that are affecting Arizona working families. Thank you, Gov. Hobbs for putting Arizonans first!

Republicans block environmental bills. This session, environmental advocates and progressive lawmakers have championed a slate of bills that would prioritize environmental justice, climate and clean energy, and water. One of the proposals supported by our partners at CHISPA Arizona, “Trees” for Kids”, would have invested in planting trees in schools in lower income neighborhoods. Unfortunately, since Republican leaders refused to give most of these bills a hearing by last Friday’s deadline, Arizonans will have to wait another year for them to have a chance.

The veto pen. Watch Gov. Katie Hobbs break out the veto pen for the first time, sending the GOP-passed budget proposal back to the lawmakers. With Arizona Republicans wasting their time pushing bad bill after bad bill at the Arizona Legislature, this certainly won’t be the last.
