This upcoming Wednesday, February 1st, is National Freedom Day – a day that honors the signing of the resolution that proposed the 13th Amendment to the Constitution that outlawed slavery. It also kicks off Black History Month. We hope you take time to pay tribute to the generations of African Americans who fought for their basic human rights and to gain full citizenship in American society. Check your local community calendars to see what events are taking place where you live, or attend one of the many events being hosted by the Smithsonian Institute, Library of Congress, National Archives, and others.
