Initially, Strawberry was thought to be a “swimmer pup” due to her awkward gait. This is a term for a newborn that can’t yet support its body weight, but over time will gain normal motor function. However, at 12-weeks Strawberry still had neurological deficits in her hind limbs that made it difficult to walk. X-rays would later show earlier fractures to her tail, which doctors believed impacted her spinal cord creating a disruption in the connection between the brain and paws. The result is an inability to position her paws normally, causing her to hop as her hind paw slides under. You can make all the difference for Strawberry’s future. |
