Tune in to hear about: the dynamics of capital raising in communities across the country, including a spotlight on how and where capital is being raised and the unique challenges faced by underrepresented businesses,
the Office’s advocacy work supporting small businesses and their investors and the recommendations being shared with Congress and the Commission in the 2022 annual report.
Host Marcia Dawood welcomes Chair Emeritus of ACA and Chair, Co-Fund Manager of Queen City Angels Tony Shipley to discuss some important tax codes that most investors and entrepreneurs don’t know about and could save millions!
Tony discusses how he got started in the angel investing world and what led him to co-founding QCA with the hopes to provide growth to his community. Since the organization was founded in 2000 they’ve grown from 5 to 180 members, invested in more than 110 different companies, and invested approximately one hundred million dollars.

Data collected annually by AIF and ACA has allowed Angels to make informed decisions when investing in diverse businesses. For the first time in history, female entrepreneurs received $1.01 in investments for every $1.00 a male business owner received in 2022. AIF continues to lead these research and report initiatives with hopes of creating a more equitable and inclusive industry.
Hear how the Growing Women’s Capital group is working to be a driving force mobilizing capital directed at investment in female founders and women-led companies.

Desired nominees should have expertise in one or more areas of ACA’s special focus for the coming year: Membership Development, Marketing, Data Analytics and Business Development. Successful candidates should also have experience as senior leaders of angel groups or other organizations within the startup ecosystem. And, of course, we put a premium on those who have demonstrated the drive and ability to get things done, for ours is a very active Board. Other selection criteria will include a history of effective work on behalf of the ACA. As a transparent and open organization committed to representing the broadest range of angels and angel organizations, we also seek a Board that is geographically and demographically diverse.
Please submit your selection for the 2024 ACA Board of Directors, term to begin July 1, 2023, by emailingACA CEO Pat Gouhin and Governance Chair, Clay Rankin, by January 20, 2023. Please include the candidate’s bio, email, phone number and LinkedIn profile, plus recommendations from at least two ACA members and their contact information. If you are nominating yourself, you will be counted as one of the two recommenders. You can learn more about ACA’s current Board, mission, vision and values here.
