NAMI Northern Virginia Holiday Schedule

The offices of NAMI Northern Virginia will be closed from December 26, 2022 – January 2-2023 to give our team the time they need with family, friends, and loved ones. The NAMI Northern Virginia HelpLine will remain available to those who are in search of resources specific to their needs, but will be operating on a limited schedule. The NAMI Northern Virginia HelpLine is not a hot line, crisis line, or suicide prevention line and can be reached by dialing 571-458-7310 x 102. Hours are as follows:

Friday, December 23rd, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Monday, December 26th, 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Tuesday, December 27th, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Wednesday, December 28th, 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Thursday, December 29th, 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Friday, December 30th, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Monday, January 2nd, 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Two New NAMI Family to Family Classes Starting in 2023

NAMI Family-to-Family is a free, 8-session educational program for family, significant others and friends of people with mental health conditions. NAMI Family-to-Family not only provides information and strategies for taking care of the person you love, but you’ll also find out that you’re not alone. Recovery is a journey, and there is hope.

The course is recommended for families of persons who are living with known or suspected mental health disorders with or without co-occurring substance abuse disorders. The class was created by an experienced family member mental health professional and is taught by specially trained and certified teachers who are also experienced family members.

Upcoming Classes:

  1. Mondays from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM, starting on January 23rd and lasting until March 13th. Sessions will held in in-person in Oakton, VA, except for on February 6th, which will be held on Zoom. There are only a few more slots register today by clicking the link below!
  2. Thursdays from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM, starting on February 2nd and lasting until March 23rd. Sessions will be help virtually via Zoom.

Mental Health America of Virginia is now providing their Peer-Run Warm Line in Spanish. This Warm Line is intended for individuals, family members, and other concerned parties who would like someone to talk to, or who request community mental health resources, or who have specific questions about their recovery journey. Call or text 1-866-400-MHAV (6428).

New research out of the UMass Chan Medical School highlights the lack of follow-up care for youth and young adults after hospitalization or emergency room visits for mental health.

Glenn Youngkin recently unveiled a new 3-year, $230 million behavioral health plan for the Commonwealth. “Right Help, Right Now” addresses six areas of behavioral health reform including, crisis care, law enforcement burden, substance use disorder support, behavioral health workforce, and service delivery innovation.

NAMI is now accepting proposals for NAMICon 2023! This year’s NAMICon will be from May 24 – May 27 at the Minneapolis Convention Center and they are seeking proposals that foster diverse perspectives on mental health support, education and innovation from individuals with mental illness, caregivers and family members, mental health providers and NAMI grassroots leaders.

Attention: NAMI Family Support Group Cancellation

The Arlington NAMI Family Support Group that meets virtually on the 4th Tuesday of each month will not be holding their meeting on Tuesday, December 27th. They will resume meeting at their regular time in January of 2023. You can check our calendar for other groups that might be meeting.
