One shot rings out from a trophy hunter’s gun, and these helpless cubs are orphaned — and facing the same fate as their mother. Friend, we can’t let trophy hunters continue to decimate bear families. At one time, it was illegal for ruthless trophy hunters to kill bear cubs in their dens. As they grow, bear cubs rely on their dens for shelter and warmth until they’re ready to face the world. But the Trump Administration overturned this ban, leaving these helpless baby animals at the mercy of callous trophy hunters killing for sport. What’s worse — Trump actually incentivized prize hunters with handouts. And now, it’s perfectly legal for sleeping bear cubs to get shredded apart by bullets in their own homes.

If a mama bear leaves her den to brave the winter cold, it means she is desperate for food to nourish herself and her cubs. Vulnerable and weak, using all her energy to search for food in order to nurse her bear cubs, she’s almost defenseless to trophy hunters. This cruel practice of hunting bears during their most vulnerable state leaves orphaned cubs suffering from starvation, predation, and exposure. We can’t allow bears and their cubs to be slaughtered with impunity!
There are states like Wyoming that are going further by working to delist grizzly bears from Endangered Species Act protections, which would put them in the crosshairs of trophy hunters. The fate of bears and their cubs is being decided by greedy private interests who are prioritizing trophy hunting and mining, logging, and drilling for profit.
Grizzlies are an irreplaceable resident of America’s wild places, integral to national parks like Yellowstone and huge swaths of the country for thousands of years. These mighty mammals represent America’s rugged wilderness. Now, their populations outside of Alaska have plummeted to a mere 2% of their historic population: Fewer than 2,000 grizzlies remain in the lower 48 states — and they are being ruthlessly hunted.
Even worse — some of these hunts are being held on America’s public lands and wildlife preserves, where these creatures are meant to be protected. If the fate of our public lands and our precious iconic species continue to rest in the hands of bad actors, we may soon lose this iconic species forever.

Bears are intelligent creatures who enhance biodiversity, enrich soils, regulate prey populations, and transport nutrients through different ecosystems as they make their way through vast expanses of wilderness. The removal of protections could cause devastating impacts not only on the species but also on their surrounding environment.
Today, faced with shrinking habitat, the loss of critical food sources, and many impacts of climate change, grizzly bears are struggling to survive. Fewer and fewer cubs are surviving to reach adulthood, and adult bears are dying more quickly because of rapid changes — from a shifting food supply to being forced to hibernate later and later in the fall.
