The World Series is here! The World Series is here! It’s certainly unlikely that many predicted an Astros-Phillies World Series at the beginning of the season — it’s unlikely anybody predicted it in early October, when the Phils were clinching their Wild Card spot at Minute Maid Park — but that’s part of the fun of the Fall Classic: No one likes a matchup everyone can see coming.

These are two compelling teams, with their own backstories, plotlines and narratives.The stakes are high for both teams, but of course they are: It’s the World Series.

Here’s a look at the top five storylines heading into tonight’s Game 1.

Dave Dombrowski and Justin Verlander spent 11 years together with the Tigers, and the current Astros ace had a distinct memory when his former boss popped into a press conference to say hello. “He’s still wearing the same cologne,” Verlander said.

We have ranked the best and hottest hitters across the Major Leagues throughout the season, and here are the top 11 hitters still standing as we head into the World Series tonight in Houston.

Some notable players — including Hall of Famers — have suited up for both the Astros and Phillies, and here is the best at each position to have played for both of this year’s pennant winners.

“Say Hey, Willie Mays!,” a documentary about Mays’ life and career, premiered at a film festival last night in New York City and will debut on HBO on Nov. 8 at 9 p.m. ET and be available to stream on HBO Max.
