Hi RJ,
Given energy prices remain high, you’ve probably heard a lot about what America is doing to meet both global and domestic energy challenges. We know it can be hard to tell fact from fiction, so that’s why we’re here to set the record straight.
To be clear, the world needs more energy – and we need to continue to be an energy leader. That starts with developing the resources we have here at home, particularly on federal lands and waters.
The Department of the Interior is responsible for managing natural gas and oil leases on federal lands and waters. Interior continues to drag its feet on its 5-year offshore leasing plan, and again missed the deadline for announcing onshore lease sales in the 3rd quarter of 2022. While there is still time to announce a sale for the fourth quarter of 2022, a recent announcement by the Department of the Interior seems to indicate that they will not conduct a sale until the second quarter of 2023. This is not soon enough.
These delays come on the heels of President Biden calling on producers to develop more energy.
If President Biden means what he says, the government should be moving forward with more federal natural gas and oil lease sales – not delaying them indefinitely.
Stay tuned for how you can get involved.
