Summer is officially coming to an end, and across the country, children are starting to head back to school.
As children return to school, we want to ensure that they get the mental health support that they need. Especially since so many children are experiencing new levels of anxiety and depression.
We had a youth mental health crisis before the pandemic. Now, it is more urgent than ever. A recent survey from the Annie E. Casey Foundation found that the number of children ages 3-17 struggling with anxiety and depression went from just under 6 million in 2016 to 7.3 million in 2020. And most don’t get the support they need to manage their mental health.
We need stronger state support for children’s mental health now. If children are able to receive mental health support in school, we can realize a future where no child struggles needlessly.
That’s why we have been advocating to increase mental health resources in schools in every state. From policy research, meeting with legislators, and getting legislation passed, Inseparable will do what it takes to resolve this crisis.
It’s okay to not be okay. If you or someone you know needs help, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 988. Crisis Text Line also provides free, 24/7, confidential support via text message to people in crisis when they text HOME to 741741.
