In simple terms, stonewalling is when someone completely shuts down in a conversation or refuses to interact with another person. While stonewalling (or “giving someone the silent treatment”) may seem like a harmless tactic to deal with problems in your relationship, it can have disastrous effects and may even be a pathway to a divorce or a breakup.
