If we were to ask teachers or school administrators about the mental health of their students, they would talk about of how conditions have worsened within the past year. More fights in the hallways, students unable to focus in class, and more students suffering from depression and anxiety.

Every child deserves to have accessible mental health resources in their schools. Whether they are experiencing mental health challenges due to an incredibly stressful school year or were already living with a mental health condition, mental health support should be readily available.

That’s why we teamed up with leading mental health organizations and created the Hopeful Futures Campaign to advocate for comprehensive mental health services in schools. Through this campaign, we have identified where states have helpful policies — and where states have gaps to fill to support the mental health of students.

We need to improve school mental health policies across the country — that’s mental health professionals, mental health education, well-being checks and more — so kids aren’t left without the help they need.
