While the nation is still processing the Supreme Court’s decision last week, we want to call your attention to the bipartisan bill passed late last week that will expand youth mental health care and save lives.
The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act takes monumental steps in funding life-saving mental health resources for our youth. Some of its actions include:
$500 million to help schools hire and retain mental health professionals.
$500 million to build a pipeline of school mental health professionals.
$240 million to support school-based mental health programs.
$150 million to help implement the 9-8-8 suicide and crisis lifeline.
We have been advocating for these solutions. This bill has the potential to help millions of children and teens seek the help they need.
It’s okay to not be okay. If you or someone you know needs help, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255). Crisis Text Line also provides free, 24/7, confidential support via text message to people in crisis when they text HOME to 741741.
