Senate fails to protect Roe. The Women’s Health Protection Act was voted down in the Senate after Joe Manchin joined Republicans to vote no. Even if he had voted yes, the bill still would have failed due to the filibuster rule, which Sen. Kyrsten Sinema does not support ending or reforming. The package was a critical priority given the Supreme Court’s upcoming expected decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, though abortion is still legal in Arizona.

Insurrectionists on the ballot. The Arizona Supreme Court ruled that U.S. Reps Andy Gosar and Paul Biggs and AZ state Rep. Mark Finchem may remain on the 2022 ballot. Earlier this year, a group of Arizona voters brought forward a lawsuit to ban them from running for reelection due to their efforts to overturn the 2020 election and role in planning the Jan. 6th event at the U.S. Capitol that led to multiple deaths.
