Mother’s Day is just around the corner, so now is the perfect time to renew your Jacquie Lawson membership and send your mum a beautiful e-card. And it’s still only $20 / £15 / €17 for a whole year of the classiest cards on the web!
Along with jazz, jeans and Coca-Cola, the idea of celebrating Mother’s Day on the second Sunday in May was invented in America. It was formalised by President Woodrow Wilson in 1914, but of course, the idea of a day to celebrate mothers has been around for millennia.
The ancient Greeks had a springtime festival celebrating Rhea, the mother of the gods, and goddess of nature and motherhood. But with wild music and riotous dancing throughout the night, that event was rather different from the way most people celebrate Mother’s Day today!
This year’s card takes for its theme those masterpieces of watercolour art which we created for our mothers in our early years – though thankfully without the mess!
