Hello, Peter
At American Airlines we believe that
A world worth traveling
is a world worth protecting.
Together we have accomplished a lot.
Take a look at the numbers.
Sustainable fuel & fuel saving efforts
Our sustainability story is centered on building a more efficient fleet of aircraft and investing in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

We have committed to purchasing 120 million gallons of SAF. Coupled with our Breakthrough Energy Catalyst partnership we are pushing our industry forward — the more demand we create for SAF, the more opportunities we will have to purchase it!

We fly the youngest mainline fleet among U.S. global network carriers thanks to $24 billion in investments.

600  new aircraft added since 2013
+ 670  aircraft retired
We are reducing weight on our aircraft:
  • using lighter seats and lighter paint
  • swapping in-seat entertainment screens and paper magazines for entertainment on your own device.

That adds up to more than 12 million gallons of fuelsaved annually.

We aren’t stopping there! American Airlines is the
1st airline to commit to set a science-based target &
1st airline to have the target approved
On April 14, our emissions reduction target for 2035 was approved by the Science Based Targets initiative as consistent with levels required to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.
Reducing waste on our flights and in our lounges

Each pair of our RECLINER Pajamas is made from 12 recycled plastic water bottles = 33 tons of plastic diverted from landfills annually.

Amenity kits and onboard service products are made with more sustainable materials, eliminating thousands of pounds of plastic waste — from toothbrushes to stir sticks.

In our lounges, paper and compostable products are replacing plastic products, and we recycle and compost in airports where we can.

Over 20,000 customers have offset travel with Cool Effect which reduces harmful emissions and supports communities impacted by climate change.

From April 19 – 24,
you can donate miles to Cool Effect, which will help support their mission of sourcing verified, high-quality carbon offsets.

Thank you for partnering with us to protect the planet
