You’ve heard about the consequences of the Department of the Interior falling far behind on its obligations to conduct federal natural gas and oil lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico. Now, a new report details how much the country stands to lose if a new 5-year leasing program is not in place.

Here are some of the details of what a delay in implementing a 5-year Gulf of Mexico leasing program could mean:

• An average of about 500,000 fewer barrels per day of oil from 2022 – 2040
• An average drop of $5 billion in U.S. Gross Domestic Product.
• 60,000 jobs lost.
• $1.5 billion in government revenue lost.

At a time of soaring inflation and rising energy costs, the last thing the country needs is a policy – or lack of a policy – that would decrease domestic energy production, kill jobs and reduce government revenue.

We’re asking Energy Citizens from around the country to make their voices heard and stand up for American energy production. You can get involved by writing a letter to the key stakeholders who can get leasing moving again. Can we count on your voice?
