Too often, Arizonans looking for job opportunities with the federal government are limited by bureaucratic barriers that discriminate against large segments of the population, preventing those with the skills to do the job from getting hired. While a formal college degree can be a good qualification for professional success, we know it’s not the only qualification that matters. Skills and experience matter, too.

Our bill makes the federal government more efficient and effective by addressing challenges that often prevent skilled workers from getting jobs for which they should be qualified.

Frequently the best candidates are the most humble – studies show women and minorities in particular understate their abilities. Our bill would require federal agencies to use actual job evaluations and tests to determine if applicants can do the job. The Act will require agencies to be more transparent in how they hire and to share information on qualified applicants, increasing the chances of great candidates being hired. Our Chance to Compete Act expands possibilities for Arizonans who have the abilities and skills to perform these jobs.
