Rittenhouse verdict. Kyle Rittenhouse was found not guilty on all counts in the fatal shooting of two during the protest over the shooting of Jacob Blake by the Kenosha Police Department. This is yet another reminder that our justice system was created to uphold white supremacy. Many GOP elected officials and candidates are sharing messages of support for Rittenhouse, fanning the flames of violence and vigilante terrorism. Our hearts are with our Black community members and activists in Wisconsin.
BBB passes the House. The Build Back Better Plan passed out of the U.S. House early Friday morning after months of negotiations and cuts. Provisions such as the expanded child tax credit, free pre-K, affordable family leave, caps on Insulin prices, and clean energy investments remained in the bill. Unfortunately, the SALT tax break remained in the bill, which rewards the ultra wealthy rather than taxing them proportionally. The bill now heads to the Senate, where negotiations will continue and hopefully, Democrats will improve the bill and pass it quickly.
Gosar censured. Arizona Republican Congressman Paul Gosar has been censured by the House of Representatives after tweeting a disgusting video that showed him killing Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Not a single other AZ GOP congressman condemned Gosar, and only two Republican House members voted yes to censure him. He has now been stripped of his committee assignments in the House, and has failed to express any kind of shame or remorse.
