Diabetes

Diabetes is a serious condition that affects the body’s ability to process food for growth and energy. In diabetes, blood sugar (glucose) builds up, which can eventually lead to heart disease, blindness, amputation and kidney failure.

When should I not wait to see a doctor?
A blood test to look for diabetes is recommended. Don’t wait to see a doctor if you have any of these diabetes symptoms:

  • A sudden increase in thirst
  • A sudden increase in urination
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Extreme hunger
  • Feeling very tired much of the time
  • Very dry skin or sores that are slow to heal
  • Blurred vision
