PPA: Polystyrene Packaging Art: Final Days

I wonder whatever happened to the pieces of polystyrene packaging in the 2016 element in this picture. Very likely washed up on some foreign shore. The picture depicts the end of the world: seems to me that we’re more likely to end it than any black hole.
