Should local governments open their meeting with prayer? That’s been the question several of our readers have been debating in some of our most recent letters to the editor. In this letter, Supervisor Mike Goodman explains why the Pinal County Board of Supervisors decided to suspend its practice of opening meetings with prayer and gives his thoughts on the issue.
In other news on the Board of Supervisors, the board recently voted to accept a $3.3 million grant to bring COVID vaccines to the county’s underserved populations, two months after the grant was rejected in a narrow vote.
Election update: Yesterday we reported that the Maricopa Unified School District budget override appeared to be failing following Tuesday’s special election. While the maintenance and operations override only had the approval of 49.04% of the votes counted thus far, the election is currently too close to call. Here’s why.
And here’s the latest on the Cactus Mine: The Casa Grande Planning and Zoning Commission will soon vote on zoning changes that would facilitate plans to reopen the old Sacaton Mine, and members of the public will have one final opportunity to learn about the project — now renamed Cactus Mine— and give their input this evening.
