Senator Sinema: Upgrading Arizona’s roads and bridges

Rj,
Earlier this month, I told you about the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, legislation making the strongest investment in America’s critical infrastructure in a generation.
I was honored to lead negotiations in the Senate – which included 5 Senators from each party and President Biden – that resulted in this historic plan. After months of hard work (and several late nights and weekends spent negotiating), our bill earned strong bipartisan approval in the Senate, with a vote of 69-30, and now awaits action in the U.S. House.
So how will our Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act benefit Arizona?
A significant part of our plan is dedicated to repairing and upgrading our roads and bridges and fueling major new transportation improvement projects in communities across the country.
The legislation invests a historic $110 billion in roads, bridges, and major transportation projects. This would include the largest investment in bridge construction and upgrades since the launch of the interstate highway system.
Specifically, our state would receive billions of dollars for federal highway projects, and hundreds of millions of dollars for transit systems and bridge replacement and repair. The list of Arizona projects that could receive new funding is long – ranging from major, long-planned expansions and upgrades to I-10 and I-17, to backlogged repairs and rehabilitation for smaller roadways and bridges across our state. These projects will create immediate good-paying jobs, and expand economic opportunities by making it easier for businesses to transport goods and safer for commuters to get to-and-from work.
Our bipartisan bill also invests major new resources in pedestrian safety and public transit – including the strongest investment in transit programs in U.S. history, and the biggest funding boost for passenger rail since Amtrak was founded.
This week, I’m traveling around Arizona, continuing to share the details of our bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and build support to get our plan passed in the U.S. House and on to President Biden to be signed into law. I pledge to continue working hard to boost jobs and economic opportunities, and help Arizona’s everyday families get ahead.
Sincerely,
Kyrsten
