This Week With Gosar
PRESCOTT, AZ – Here are our top stories…
Gosar Visits Department of Justice and D.C. Detention Center to Demand Answers Regarding Political Prisoners
This week, my colleagues and I requested a meeting with Department of Justice (DoJ) officials to discuss very troubling reports that the Biden Administration and the Justice Department are mistreating non-violent prisoners arrested in connection with January 6.
They refused to meet with us.
We then attempted to meet with officials at a detention center in D.C. where many of these prisoners are still being held.
Again, we were denied a meeting.
We had sent a written request, by email, to both the DOJ and the Bureau of Prisons one week earlier. They acknowledged receiving the letters but refused to reply.
Let me state unequivocally, I deplore violence. That’s why I have repeatedly asked the DoJ to release the over 14,000 hours of surveillance video taken on January 6, so we can hold those accountable who may have broken the law.
Over six months have passed yet nearly 200 of these individuals remain separated from their families. Mounting legal bills threaten to bankrupt them. There are unconfirmed reports that some prisoners are being or have been tortured and held in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day.
These are not unruly or dangerously violent criminals. These are political prisoners who are now being persecuted and bearing the pain of unjust suffering. Imagine the outrage from the LEFT if everybody who rioted last summer received the same treatment that the January 6th rioters are receiving.
Unfortunately, Mr. Biden and his Justice Department seem more interested in ruining the lives of these folks instead of equal justice. The excessive overcharging against the January 6 rioters when compared to the slap on the wrist for the wide scale arson, looting, assault and murder by the BLM terrorists last summer is a shocking indictment of corruption, unequal treatment, and political persecution.
I will continue to demand equal justice under the law. Individuals arrested for illegal acts on January 6 deserve to be treated fairly. We cannot let these injustices go unnoticed and I will not stop fighting for their rights.

Gosar Introduces Legislation to Deport Criminal Aliens
This week, I introduced the Criminal Alien Removal Clarification Act, legislation that would ensure non-citizens, convicted of a felony or two or more misdemeanors, can be deported from the United States. Current law only includes certain felonies, such as aggravated felonies, and other specific crimes.
This common-sense legislation closes loopholes in laws that allows criminal activities to occur without consequences. Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana joined my efforts by introducing the companion legislation in the United States Senate and he had this to say about my legislation:
“The Biden administration’s open-borders policy is inviting violent criminals into the U.S. I’m grateful that Congressman Gosar is introducing the Criminal Alien Removal Clarification Act in the House to help deport dangerous criminals who are putting American communities at risk every day.” – Senator John Kennedy
I’m honored that this bill is supported by NumbersUSA, the Federation of American Immigration Reform and the America First Policy Institute.

Gosar Seeks Answers on Lack of Tax Returns
It’s now early August and sadly many in Arizona are still waiting their tax returns. I continue to hear from constituents asking for my help to find out why it’s taking so darn long to receive their tax return. Shockingly, over 35 million Americans have yet to receive their returns. This is an unprecedented backlog. Worse, the backlog has gone up by nearly four million since last month! Folks, this is going in the wrong direction.
In response, this week I wrote to the Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) demanding answers and requesting information on what the IRS is doing to resolve this delay and get my constituents their money as quickly as possible.

Gosar Bills Would Inject Transparency and Reform into Broken NEPA Process
This week, I also introduced two bills to reform the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). 50 years ago, NEPA was arguably signed into law to be prevent harmful damage to our environment by requiring the federal government review and analyze the environmental effects prior to permitting or granting approval for a project.
Today, however, NEPA has been weaponized by radical environmentalists who want to stop nearly any form of economic development. Endless delays and lawsuits are used to prevent infrastructure projects and job creation throughout the country. The increasingly complex bureaucratic process has also dramatically increased the cost and timeline to complete projects. As a result, the NEPA process takes on average 5.2 years for completion.
These two bills will balance important environmental review processes with ensuring economic growth and infrastructure development can occur in a more timely and reasonable manner. Here’s a short summary of both bills.
- The NEPA Data Transparency and Accountability Act would empower Americans to understand the full bureaucratic costs of NEPA by requiring each federal agency to report to Congress on its NEPA activity every year. Click here to learn more.
- The NEPA Agency Process Accountability Act reduces reduce unnecessary delays and burdensome paperwork while also promoting better environmental decision making by streamlining review processes and reducing duplicative paperwork to reduce the cost and time needed to complete much needed infrastructure projects. Other Highlights From This Week
Cyberattacks have been all too common during the first six months of the Biden administration. From attacks on energy infrastructure, to food supply chains, and more, our national cybersecurity posture needs urgent improvements. This week, in the House Oversight and Reform Committee, I questioned Biden administration officials about foreign influence in our energy grid and the Administration’s dangerous actions to suspend effective Trump administration policies to protect our grid from cyberattacks.
In April, I wrote to the Department of Justice (DoJ) requesting an investigation into sexual trafficking and Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) on the website OnlyFans. This week, I followed up with other members of Congress deeply concerned that the COVID-19 pandemic is directing our children even more online where pornographic content like this exists. We again requested an investigation seeking answers to questions concerning the extent of trafficking, prostitution, and CSAM on OnlyFans.
House Democrats passed portions of the annual appropriations bills this week. Authorizing hundreds of billions more in new spending to advance pay raises for themselves, defund the police, and force a host of socialist environmental and social policies on the American people, these bills several weaken our country and drive it further and further into debt. Not even one of these bills appropriated money for our national security. Not only did I vote against these bills, but I introduced amendments to defund Critical Race Theory, prevent your tax dollars from funding globalist organizations, and ban funds be used for foreign jobs, mining, and forests before protecting our domestic workers, economy, and forests.
The United States Supreme Court is set to take up a challenge to Mississippi’s ban on abortion after 15 weeks. In response, I signed an amicus brief along with the Mississippi congressional delegation and Pro-Life Caucus arguing that the Supreme Court should uphold the constitutionality of pre-viability restrictions on abortion and uphold Mississippi’s law banning abortions.
House democrats vote to allow illegal aliens to work in Congress
This is shameful and wrong. Also: the “800,000” number is false. That’s the number being used for over 10 years. Just in the first six months of this year Mr. Biden has allowed over 1,000,000 illegal aliens into our country. Many will claim to be “dreamers.” Read story here.
