Charles Booker
Today, I am proud to announce that I am officially running for U.S. Senate against Rand Paul. I’ve been waiting a while to make this announcement, and the first thing I need to do is ask you to join us. Because we can’t do this without you.
I love Kentucky. And I need to tell you why I’m running to represent us.
When the pandemic hit, we showed up for our neighbors with groceries. When our sister Breonna Taylor’s door got kicked in, we marched. And when the floodwaters rose and a storm knocked the power out, we took care of our own.
That’s the soul of the Kentucky I know. We’ve got infinite strength, resolve, and potential. And yet, we often get counted out, stereotyped, and disrespected.
I can trace a lot of it back to the failed leadership of folks like Rand Paul. For 10 years in the Senate, instead of serving as a voice for us, Rand has been a loyal servant for the rich and powerful. He’s voted to undermine our democracy, stoked the fires of racial resentment, and fought vigorously for tax breaks for the top 1%.
Kentuckians face real challenges. And we deserve so much better than that.
So I’m proud to be running to represent the hardworking, loving, and resilient people of this Commonwealth. And, I could really use your help on day one.
Here’s what you need to know about me:
I grew up in one of the poorest ZIP codes in Kentucky. Both of my parents had to drop out of high school to help take care of us. I’ve had to ration my insulin. I’ve been homeless. My mom often went without eating so that I could. I’ve lived the struggle other politicians only talk about.
But I know that my family wasn’t alone in their struggles. From the hood to the holler, we all share the same hopes, dreams, struggles, and fears. The challenges we face are serious, but I know the solution: it’s us.
If we come together as one people, we can and will build a brighter future for everyone in our Commonwealth and country. One where we all have the same quality health care as our politicians. Where we have more money in our pockets, breathe clean air, and drink clean water. Where we can go to sleep safe and sound without worrying about our door being busted down.
That world is possible, but it will mean defeating politicians like Rand Paul who are standing in the way. That’s why I have to ask for your help:
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for all the love and support you’ve shown me over these past few months leading up to this decision. I love you all.
Now, let’s win this together.
