The Troy-Hayner Cultural Center has been the premier Arts Center in Troy since opening its doors in 1976. To date, the Center has hosted over 3,425 exhibits, concerts and special events, 2,250 art classes, over 675 local clubs & organizations have held meetings at Hayner and approximately 1,277,530 guests have visited the Hayner. Almost every Troy resident has a Hayner memory of a time they visited the House. For many, the Hayner has been the place where one celebrates special life events such as a beautiful Courtyard or East Room wedding, celebrating a special birthday or hosting family and friends for a milestone anniversary. Others may have been inspired by an exhibit that features a beautiful work of art or a musical presentation by a gifted musician. Or perhaps you discovered your hidden artistic talent, or refined that talent, by taking a watercolor or oil painting class. And since 1977, thousands of young ballerinas remember coming to the Hayner every week to study ballet with Miss Cyndy, and she is still teaching at the Hayner today! If you are a member of the Troy Lions Club, Altrusa International, 4H of Miami County or other local club or organization, you have called Hayner your home for regular meetings and special events for many years.
The Hayner motto is: “It’s Your House” and we strive each day to make the Hayner a place where you always feel welcome and at home each time you visit. Exhibits and concerts at the Hayner are always free of charge and open to the public as well as many of the special events we host throughout the year. The Hayner is able to provide most programming free because of the generous support of the Troy City School residents by their approval of an operating levy. The Hayner .85 mill renewal is on the May 4th ballot. This is a renewal of the current levy with no new taxes requested. Please support the Hayner with a “YES” vote on May 4th!!

David Wion is the director of the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center and Rachael Boezi is the Assistant Director but there is so much more than administrative work happening at the Hayner this spring. David is a gifted pianist and Rachael Boezi is outstanding mezzo soprano. The good news for Troy, Ohio is that these two co-workers are putting together a special concert of hits from the Broadway stage and Silver Screen. Both musicians are inspired by all the gorgeous glitter, glamour and shine that surrounds our American Divas. After a long winter of debate the two have agreed that Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand will be the theme of the concert. Enjoy many of your favorites like “I’ll Be Seeing You,” “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes,” “The Way We Were,” “Embraceable You,” “Someone to Watch Over Me,” “Send in the Clowns.” We won’t tell, if you sing along with Rachael, as loud as you can. Visit www.TroyHayner.org for details and updates. Honey and Blue describe their style as a mix of pop, blues and soul. The vocals are fronted by singer/songwriters Adam Darling and Stephanie Amber. Appropriately named, Honey and Blue combines Darling’s bluesy sound with Amber’s powerful take on the lyrics and harmony. With Dwight Bailey on bass, James Gaiters on drums and David Swank on keyboard, this band features an intuitive mix of pop, blues and Americana.Shannon Clark & the Sugar see themselves as Midwest Americana Soul. This Husband-wife-daughter family band from Darke County, Ohio writes and performs original music about love, loss, joy, and the struggles of the human condition. Their sound is a blend of Folk/Pop, soul and Americana country. The trio claims influences from Glen Hansard, Amos Lee, Bob Dylan, Brandi Carlile, as well as Dolly Parton and John Prine. Their first album, The Sugar Sessions was released in 2020.Fridays on Prouty with The Fries – Since 1989 this band has been keeping the great songs alive in the Dayton area. The band features Gary Knight, Peter Price, Matt Scholp, Henry Mays, and Steve Phelps. They have opened up for many national acts, such as: Kansas, The Guess Who, Gladys Knight, Mick Fleetwood with Billy Thorpe and Bekka Bramlett, Foghat with Lonesome Dave, Henry Lee Summer, The Dixie Dregs, Gary Richrath from REO Speedwagon, Martina McBride, 1964 as the Beatles, and many more. Presented by Troy Main Street in collaboration with Troy-Hayner Cultural Center.Until Miami County is fully open, Hayner will be accepting only 40 reservations for these concerts. Please watch Hayner’s website for news and updates.The Paisha Thomas Quartet – Paisha is a native of Troy and Piqua. As a young woman, she followed her dream to pursue music as her full-time career. You can find her in the heart of Ohio’s music scene in Columbus, Ohio but her roots here inform much about her soulful, bluesy, folksy songs that ring with the truth of her experience. Paisha calls her style “Miami County soul/funk/gospel”. She is a descendant of the Randolph Freedpeople, a well-documented Miami County story of black migration. Like these stories, the poetry of her songs can be cutting, as well as full of hope and power. She is bringing her songs, especially the songs of her ancestors, the Randolph Freedpeople back home to Troy. She will be joined by Chris Shaw on fiddle and guitar, Reggie Jackson on drums and Paul Vineyard on bass and harmonica.Someday Morning – These musicians came together as a band in 2016 after a chance meeting at a party in Mechanicsburg, Ohio. Each had recently returned home after years of touring the county with different bands. Each had come back thinking about settling down in Ohio. It did not take long after the party for them to realize that this chance meeting could be the start of something they were looking for. They call themselves Someday Morning. Lead singer Troy Brown describes the band as:
“A four-piece band from small town Ohio with nothing to prove and nothing to lose. Great story telling with simple arrangements and melodies that go down as easy…It’s country, it’s rock, but at its core it’s just a group of blue-collar guys doing what they love.”Berachah Valley has been playing bluegrass together in our area since for over 16 years. Their sound is associated with tight female vocal harmonies and exceptional musical talent. Berachah Valley is what we have come to associate as the traditional southern Ohio bluegrass style. They have performed around this half of the country at every festival you can imagine and opened for so many talents such as Rhonda Vincent, Pine Mountain Railroad, Paul Williams and the Victory Trio, Joe Mullins and the Radio Ramblers and many more. This six-piece band includes the harmonies of Cathy Baker, Michelle Edester and Leisa Hinkle and Larry Collins. On Tuesday, July 20, 2021 Berachah Valley will be in the Hayner Courtyard for their Lucky Lemonade Concert Series. You will find Cathy on guitar, Michelle on mandolin, Becky Meyers on banjo, Leisa on percussion and Larry on stand-up bass.Alyssa Hanson Duo – Alyssa is very involved in the Dayton music scene. At one time she was the host of Mick Montgomery’s “Musician’s Co-op.” You will find her performing throughout the area at places like Yellow Cab, Dayton Music Fest, Piqua Arts Council and Moeller Brew Barn. A classically trained vocalist, she studied at Lee University in Tennessee. Eventually she made her way to Nashville and developed her own soulful-folk style with a bit of Broadway around the edges. She was co-writer and lead singer for Red In The Water on the album, “Chasing Change” in 2017. Alyssa will be performing as a duo for our final Lucky Lemonade Concert of the season. Her brother Tyler Hanson will join her on vocals and guitar.So What is PorchFest?Imagine 40 bands in a hodgepodge of styles and genres playing throughout the Southwest Historic district on porches, in side-yards, lots and patios. Pick up a walk-able map of the event and choose your favorite bands. Tour one concert after the other!

You’ll take home a 16” by 20” completed work of art. Some classes will use a new technique, acrylic with oil glaze. If you’ve never painted before this class is for you! Creative spirit and Ginger can help you discover your hidden talent. All art supplies are provided. Bring a roll of paper towels and baby wipes. The class fills up fast so schedule right away. As a fine art medium, colored pencil is versatile, inexpensive, and easy to master. Whether you are new to colored pencils or experienced with them, you will discover techniques for effective results. Working with specialty erasers and household items, you will learn how to smooth and blend color and to create convincing textures rapidly—without heavy pressure and repetitive strokes. You will then apply these techniques on a class project. You may also choose a project of your own. As you work, you’ll learn details to look for, what should be brought out or minimized, and shortcuts to help you finish more quickly. Discussion will include the characteristics of various pencil brands, color choices and mixing tips. Supplies provided include a 9×12″ pad of Stonehenge paper, assorted sample papers, erasers and surprise tools, color and outline reference images for exercises and practice projects.
