WASHINGTON D.C. – Here’s what’s happening…

Open Borders are NOT America First

Gosar Fighting Democratic Border Policies:

Congressional Democrats unveiled an “immigration reform” bill which provides amnesty to more than 14.5 million illegal aliens already in our country.  The Biden Administration also announced it will begin immediately releasing into Yuma County 50 illegal aliens on a daily basis. With no background check or COVID-19 health screening, these released illegal aliens pose a serious security and public health risk. If we are to take seriously the state and County’s efforts to rein in this pandemic, then releasing 50 potentially positive cases into Arizona every day is a threat to public health and constitutes an emergency. To counter these harmful policies, this week I signed onto legislation which would make permanent a policy to hold aliens arrested crossing the border in Mexico and penned a letter to the Yuma County Sheriff  demanding local law enforcement detain illegal aliens and return them to their country of origin.

Ending Forever Wars

Gosar Pushes to Bring Troops Home:

This week, the House Committee on Oversight and Reform Subcommittee on National Security held a hearing evaluating America’s future in Afghanistan. The hearing focused on a report with a troubling conclusion: the need to maintain American military presence in Afghanistan. I am deeply bothered by this finding.  After twenty years of war, the United States has nothing to show for over $1 trillion taxpayer dollars spent, almost 2400 soldiers killed and over 20,000 seriously wounded.  At a time when tens of millions of Americans are unemployed and where our infrastructure is in disrepair, we need to prioritize and spend our limited funds here in the United States.  The Biden administration has no strategy for victory and 20 years of intervention has proven there is no plan to win and leave.  This endless war needs to end now.

Protecting Our Elections

Stop Foreign Donations Affecting Our Elections Act:

I introduced H.R. 1127, the Stop Foreign Donations Affecting Our Elections Act, which closes loopholes in election law allowing foreign entities to make online campaign contributions, a long-outlawed practice. To close these loopholes and eliminate foreign monetary influence in our elections, this common-sense legislation amends Section 302 of the Federal Elections Campaign Act of 1971 to require both the disclosure of the Credit Verification Value (CVV) number printed on the back of a credit card along with the billing address for all online contributions. The CVV is linked to the zip code of the credit card which can be used to detect foreign donors.  Online contributions lacking the CVV number will be prohibited. This simple fix to existing law will help ensure that any person making online donations is an American citizen making our electoral system safer and more transparent.

Giving Back to Those Who Gave All for Us

Kingman Veterans Treatment Court Graduation:

One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is recognizing the heroes who defend our freedoms. This week, a member of my team, Jeff Timm, presented Congressional certificates on my behalf to the graduating veterans at the Kingman Veterans Treatment Court.  Sadly, one in five veterans has symptoms of a mental health disorder or cognitive impairment caused from combat service. Veterans Treatment Centers address the treatment needs of justice-involved veterans by providing a dignified and important alternative to traditional criminal processing.  I am very proud of these veteran graduates!

Other Highlights From This Week…

Democrats continued to pursue more partisan, COVID spending by rejecting my amendments to curb blue state bailouts. I also joined my Republican colleagues in a resolution requiring the Biden Administration to account for all unspent COVID-19 funding as Democrats barrel towards another $1.9 trillion.

On Wednesday, we mourned the passing of conservative radio icon Rush Limbaugh. Over three decades, Rush shifted the conservative landscape and reshaped the political narrative. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, who I hope will take comfort in knowing that his mark on this world will not long be forgotten. Thank you Rush, rest easy.
