Peter ,
It’s tax season, and thanks to our work together, Direct File is now available in half of all U.S. states.
Before Direct File, most taxpayers were using paid online platforms like TurboTax and H&R Block, spending hundreds of dollars and hours of their time to file their taxes online.
Now, tens of millions of taxpayers are eligible to use this new, free, online tax filing system. In most cases it takes less than an hour and it allows you to claim tax credits that you may be eligible for such as the Child Tax Credit or the Earned Income Tax Credit.
If your taxes are relatively straightforward and you live in one of the following states that opted to participate, you may be eligible to use Direct File this tax filing season:Alaska, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
Even if you don’t live in one of the 25 states above, forward this email to family or friends in those states, so they can file their taxes online for free.

DIRECT FILELast year, during Direct File’s pilot program, taxpayers in the 12 participating states received more than $90 million in refunds and saved an estimated $5.6 million in tax preparation fees.1
If this year’s expansion of Direct File is successful, our hope is that it can not only be saved under the Trump administration, but expanded to taxpayers in all 50 states next year, which would save U.S. taxpayers an estimated $11 billion annually in filing fees and time costs.2
