Adoptions are down, but it’s our no-kill promise to give them care no matter what
Dear Peter,
More than 300 dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens are eagerly waiting to be adopted from our campus, and they all share one holiday wish: a loving home.
You may know there’s an adoption crisis happening right now. Shelters across the country are taking in more homeless animals – and they are staying longer, too, waiting for a family of their own.
The rise in abandoned and unwanted animals has been a nationwide problem since the COVID-19 pandemic. Though stay-at-home orders helped clear many organizations of their homeless animal population, services like spaying and neutering were not considered “essential.”
Now, as folks return to in-office work and the price of pet food and veterinary care rises, shelters across the country are experiencing their fourth straight year in an overcapacity crisis. Shelter and rescue populations have increased by nearly 900,000 animals since January 2021 and, even more saddening, 1 in 4 pet owners have considered rehoming their pet in the last year.
Your holiday gift can make all the difference for the dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens here. They were born on the streets… abandoned by a once-loving family… or neglected in a torturous breeding mill. Here, they finally get their first taste of warmth and safety.
P.S. You don’t need to be a pet parent to know that every creature deserves a cozy, safe home this holiday. We’re proud of our promise to the animals here, and we’re doing everything we can to make this season joyful. Help us keep our no-kill promise with a tax-deductible gift.
84 cents of every dollar spent goes directlyto animal program services.
