BREAKING: Bills Introduced in the U.S. House will Help Bend the Bird Curve
Two newly introduced bills—the Migratory Bird Protection Act and the Albatross and Petrel Conservation Act—will help reinforce and modernize century-old protections for migratory birds, and support international coordination to conserve imperiled seabirds, respectively. Read more and take action

New Bill Would Support Bird Conservation in Cities and Towns
This afternoon, Representative Debbie Dingell (D-MI) introduced the Urban Bird Treaty Act, legislation supporting conservation, hazard reduction, and community engagement to help birds living in and migrating through urban areas. Read more

The U.N. Convention on Biological Diversity (COP16) will take place this month in Colombia. Delegates will be working to help secure a healthy planet for birds, other wildlife, and people. Chesapeake Ospreys are in Danger—They Need More Fish
Researchers in Virginia are sounding the alarm on a dramatic decline in Osprey reproductive success, due to overfishing of Atlantic menhaden. Without enough fish to eat, Osprey chicks are starving in their nests, and overall reproductive rates have dropped even lower than at the height of the DDT era. Read more

Climate Corner
At Climate Week NYC, Audubon hosted a panel about responsible offshore wind development in the U.S. Panelists discussed how offshore wind can be deployed in ways that are informed by science and community input in coordination with relevant agencies. With the right technology, offshore wind is a solvable problem for birds, but the status quo of living with the climate crisis is not. In January, Audubon will release a new report that examines the challenges and opportunities for responsibly building offshore wind. Read more
