Dear Friend of Knowledge,
Are you struggling with a difficult question in your life? Often, I find myself in that position as well. It’s part of the human condition to be faced with difficult situations, choices, and people.
We teach at Hillsdale College that we must carefully consider concepts such as morality, ethics, happiness, courage, character, and justice when we face difficult questions.
In the Nicomachean Ethics—the first book written on how best to live—Aristotle argues that human happiness chiefly depends upon a person’s character, which is formed by making good choices.
But good choices don’t come naturally. That’s why every student at Hillsdale studies Aristotle. In fact, understanding Aristotle is so important to living a good life that we’ve produced our online course, “Introduction to Aristotle’s Ethics: How to Lead a Good Life.”
