Gosar Votes to Hold AG Garland in Contempt of Congress
This week, the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, on which I serve, voted to hold United States Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress.
While AG Garland has presided over a corrupt Department of Justice and the most politicized FBI in history, these weren’t the reasons for contempt. He was held in contempt for ignoring a duly issued subpoena for information regarding Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report on Mr. Biden’s mishandling of classified materials after documents were discovered in his home and office in 2022. If you haven’t been following this, you might not even know that Mr. Biden had top secret documents he apparently stole going back 40 years, when he was a senator. Biden had no legal right to have any classified documents at his home.
Mr. Garland is hiding from Congress and the American people the report on this possible criminality. That is why Congress held him in contempt. No man is above the law, and Congress will not be ignored.
Gosar Votes on Aviation Safety and Infrastructure Legislation
Also this week, I voted in favor of H.R. 3935, the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024, bicameral legislation to reauthorize and improve the Federal Aviation Administration, which is critical to secure our global leadership in air travel, support the economy with millions of jobs, make the system safer and more efficient for travelers, and ensure the future of American aviation.
I Hate to Say It But….I Told You So.
Buried by the Fake News this week were a couple of important stories detailing the junk science and other lies pushed by Dr. Anthony Fauci and many leftists concerning the COVID-19 pandemic. The Select Committee on the Coronavirus Pandemic released a transcript this week in which the former National Institutes of Health Director Francis Collin admitted that the federal government’s guidance to remain six feet apart was completely made up. Remember all those six-foot tape markings on floors at checkout lines at grocery stores, banks and schools? All fake with zero scientific evidence to back claims that the arbitrary six-foot recommendation would save lives. Nevertheless, Dr. Fauci and other radicals spent years scaring the hell out of Americans.
It was also reported this week that the COVID-19 virus was in fact manmade in a Chinese lab that was funded by the United States government. China lied and in 2020 Dr. Fauci repeated the claim that the virus “evolved in nature and then jumped species.” Not true. Everyone knew the virus leaked from a research lab in Wuhan, China. Yet Fauci continued to lie to Congress and the American people. Who can forget this doozy of a lie in May 2021 when Fauci professed that the United States “has not ever and does not now fund gain-of-function research in the Wuhan Institute of Virology.” More lies.
Suicide rates exploded in the wake of pandemic lockdowns. Schoolchildren across the country were left behind suffering from unnecessary learning loss. Small businesses shut down, many to never reopen. Government bureaucrats stepped all over rights and canceled or condemned anyone who disagreed. Fauci lied and people died. This was done with zero scientific evidence.
Gosar Votes to Curb Biden from Blocking Funding for Israel
To appease members of the Hamas Caucus and other Israel-hating leftists, Joe Biden has made known his intention to withhold critical security resources recently appropriated by Congress to Israel as they fight to protect themselves against Hamas terrorists. In response, this week I joined a bipartisan group of members of Congress in passing the Israel Security Assistance Support Act. This legislation curbs Mr. Biden’s foolish decision to prevent Israel from protecting and defending its citizens. At a time when Israel is facing increased attacks and the continued holding of Israeli and American hostages by Hamas terrorists, and antisemitism continues to rise across America, this bill reaffirms the U.S.-Israel alliance.
Today the media and Congress seem to have no problem with Mr. Biden withholding funds that Congress mandated be spent on Israel. In contrast, let’s take a quick trip to the yesteryear of 2020:
“The House impeached President Trump for abuse of power, alleging that the president withheld the Ukraine aid for personal and political gain, as well as for obstructing the congressional probe into the hold.” Where is the outrage? Where is the impeachment of Mr. Biden? I guess it’s only wrong when President Trump does it.
Gosar Cosponsors Bill to Keep Communities Safe
To kick off Police Week, I cosponsored the Reshape Alternatives to Detention (ATD) Act, legislation that would stop Joe Biden from turning the Department of Homeland Security’s Alternatives to Detention (ATD) program into a social services program paid for by the American taxpayer. It will ensure that ICE utilizes every available detention bed before resorting to ATD and that every illegal alien on the non-detained docket is tracked with GPS monitoring rather than being allowed to roam free throughout the United States.
Backup: The ATD programs allow illegal aliens in immigration proceedings who are not detained in an immigration facility to remain in communities pending the outcome of their immigration case. According to the Center for Immigration Studies, the program costs 1.29 billion dollars and “provides little value to immigration enforcement.” The Center for Immigration Center further notes that “Biden wants ATD to be expanded to allow a greater number of illegal aliens out of detention; the goal of these activists is the elimination of detention altogether with illegal aliens being allowed to roam American streets with nominal oversight from ICE. Considering that fewer than 40,000 illegal aliens are currently detained, these activists have pretty much gotten what they want.”
Context: As of January 27th, 2024, only 189,780 illegals were enrolled in the ATD Program. Even fewer, 36,931 illegals, are currently occupying ICE detention beds. Meanwhile, under the Biden Administration, the non-detained docket has swelled to nearly eight million.
The RESHAPE ATD Act would:
👉 Require the DHS Secretary to fill all available detention beds before allowing using ATD.
👉 Reaffirm that ICE has complete authority over illegal aliens on the non-detained docket.
👉 Require all individuals to be tracked via GPS during the illegal immigration proceedings.
👉 Require public notice and notification to local law enforcement if an illegal alien absconds from ATD.
👉 Require all participants to “check-in” with the DHS Secretary or face immediate deportation.
180,000 More Lawbreakers Cross Border in April
This week, Customs and Border Protection released new data showing 179,725 illegal aliens crossed the southern border last month. Since Joe Biden took office, 11 million illegal aliens have surged across the border.
Criminals are pouring across the border, destroying communities and straining law enforcement. For example, this week it was reported that two illegal aliens, one of whom is on the terrorist watch list, attempted to breach the Marine Corps base in Quantico, VA just a few miles outside of the nation’s capital. A few weeks ago, a member of the Hezbollah terror group was arrested in Texas and admitted he intended to bomb New York. Alarmingly, 350 terrorists on the watchlist have now entered the United States in the past three years, including at least 80 this year.
Mr. Biden’s 94 executive actions on immigration and his failed, open border policies created the border invasion and it is costing taxpayers $451 billion each year. House Republicans passed a tough border security bill, H.R. 2, last May, but Senator Schumer and Joe Biden refuse to support it. Democrats would rather have a wide-open border than a safe America.

It’s Mail Time!
📬 Each week, I receive thousands of letters and I appreciate hearing from everyone. Here is a sample of letters I received this week.
📩 Robert H. from Surprise shares:
Hi Congressman Gosar. I’m a distinguished graduate of the United States Naval Academy, BS in Ocean Engineering, Class of 1977. I served on active duty for over 20 years, was qualified in Surface Warfare, then got my wings in Pensacola, FL (was first in my flight training class), andflew the F-14 Tomcat at NAS Miramar, CA. I was also a F-14 Tomcat Instructor there. I had over 450 carrier-arrested day and night landings (“traps”), approximately 2000 flighthrs, then was transferred to London UK, where I received an MS in International Relations while serving as a Plans & Policy Officer at the Navy HQ there. I was then transferred to the Navy’s International Programs Office inArlington, VA andcompleted my 20 years as a Commander USN. I also served for five years as a Foreign Service Officer with the State Dept, worked in Ciudad Juarez MX, Washington DC, and Cape Town, South Africa. I wasn’t a good “fit” at the State Dept, I’m sure you’d know why! I also held several civilian positions with Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and General Dynamics IT. Now retired and living in Surprise. I love it here!
I cannot believe nor do I understand the hatred, the venom, and the negativity shown by some of your constituents, which you highlight each week in your newsletter. I thoroughly enjoy your responses to each of those types of letters – they’re too ignorant and misguided to realize that they are merely highlighting their own stupidity, while saying nothing of value, nor do they specify any policies they want to comment on or change. They are clearly propagandized, brainwashed, and are blind to the truth and what’s really going on.
I think you are doing an outstanding job in an important and difficult position, and you clearly have the same principles as I do. Keep up the great work, and as we used to say at the Naval Academy: “Nonillegitimumcarborundum” which loosely translates to “Don’t let the bastards get you down!” Keep fighting the good fight, God Bless you, and God Bless America.
📤 Dear Robert, first let me thank you for your service to our country. I am incredibly grateful for your sacrifice to protect the freedoms and rights we hold dear. Regarding the haters that write me: as I’ve often said, no one party or person has a monopoly on great ideas or good policies and I truly appreciate hearing from everyone, even those who may disagree with me. In fact, I value their perspective. Rather than name-calling, cursing or spewing hate-filled venom, I’d much rather engage in a healthy disagreement based on facts and dearly held beliefs. Unfortunately, many so-called “tolerant left” are full of animosity and lack the decency to “agree to disagree” civilly. Someone wise once said that profanity is the first sign of a lazy mind and I tend to agree.
📩 Don H. from Goodyear, AZ offers:
The hate filled letters [you share] from your constituents are remarkable. Democrats like to rage and rant like demons before an exorcist when there is a true traditional Republican in the room. If I wrote like that toa Democratgovernment official, I’d be afraid of getting a SWAT team at my door, or at the very least, an IRS audit.
Here’s my letter to you:
It is really rewarding to have you as one of the few adults in the room. If anything, your coherent example counters the sheer ignorance of living with no consequences.
📤 Don, thanks for the very thoughtful note and observation. The vast majority of letters I receive from constituents are decent and thoughtful, even those who may disagree with me. Those who “rage and rant” are the same individuals who have “Peace and Love” or “Practice Kindness” bumper stickers affixed to their battery-powered vehicles or e-bikes. I pray that God changes their heart and grants them the ability to love thy neighbor as thyself.
📩 Finally, David S. from Surprise, AZ writes:
Please quit giving money to Ukraine – a country that won’t win this war against Russia. Let Zelenskyy fight his own war.
📤 David – From the beginning of its war with Russia, I have opposed every single penny of American taxpayer funds for Ukraine. In March 2022, I was only one of three Representatives whovoted againstthe Supporting the people of Ukraine resolution. In May 2022, Ivoted againstthe 2022 Additional Ukraine Supplemental Appropriations Act. In September 2022, Ivoted againstthe 2023 Continuing Appropriations and Ukraine Supplemental Appropriations Act. Most recently, in April 2024, Ivoted againstthe 2024 Ukraine Security Supplemental Appropriations Act.
Another reason I do not support American taxpayer money to Ukraine is because there is no clear, coherent, or attainable goal in this conflict. ACouncil on Foreign Relations articlesays that “Ukraine remains intent on wresting Crimea back from Russia…” This is clearly a pipe dream. Not only would Ukraine likely have to break throughRussian fortifications in Kherson and Zaporozhye. Not only would they then have to somehow capture the peninsula. But they would have to figure out how to subdue a population thatoverwhelmingly votedto leave Ukraine and join Russia.
The horrific Russia-Ukraine War has taken the lives of thousands at least. It can be linked to the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam and the Nord Stream pipeline, two of the worst environmental catastrophes in recent memory. As a faithful Christian, I will never cheer on nor support needless bloodshed and environmental damage at the exclusive benefit of the military-industrial complex and other war profiteers. Instead, I will always try my best to pursue peace and reconciliation. That is why IinvitedPutin and Zelenskyy to come to Arizona to engage in peace talks. I plan to continue my opposition to American taxpayer money to Ukraine, as well as my support for a peaceful resolution to the Russia-Ukraine war.
From the very beginning, I have questioned sending billions of dollars to protect Ukraine’s border when our border is wide open. Why send our American troops all over the world yet not to our border where we need them the most? Enough war and death. American money should be used for peace and tranquility and to protect our people.
