In February, a hunter identified by news sources as Cody Roberts from Daniel, Wyoming in Sublette County, reportedly ran down a wolf with a snowmobile. However, instead of swiftly ending the animal’s agony, Roberts apparently instead captured the wolf—who was apparently injured gravely enough that the man was able to approach and bind the animal’s snout with thick tape—and then reportedly paraded the surely terrified and suffering wolf around for hours, including at his home and at a local bar where he posed for lurid photos with the bound animal before finally killing the wolf! |
A horrified witness reportedly immediately alerted Wyoming Game & Fish Department officials, but Roberts apparently received only a slap on the wrist for his unthinkable actions: a $250 fine for “illegal possession of wildlife.” Wolves in 85% of Wyoming, including in this county, are considered “predatory” animals under the law and are therefore often shockingly deemed “exempt” from most of the state’s cruelty-to-animals laws. However, it appears that Sublette County officials weren’t alerted at the time of the incident and thus a thorough cruelty-to-animals investigation apparently never took place.
Please send polite e-mails to Sublette County officials and let them know that this wolf undoubtedly endured unimaginable agony and terror far surpassing the law’s intended scope of “predator control.” Urge them to swiftly launch an investigation into this matter, to file charges if appropriate, and, if a conviction is secured, to request that Roberts’ hunting license be revoked in addition to the application of maximum penalties. |
