Border Crisis Continues
Hundreds of people illegally flooded across the El Paso border on Thursday, utilizing a small opening in razor wire barricades. Texas National Guard troops quickly regained control, as Border Patrol agents arrested the individuals and transported them to a federal processing center.
The incident highlights the difficult situation Texas is facing. The hotly contested SB4 immigration law is being reviewed in the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, leaving federal and state authorities in legal limbo for the near future.
While Texas has continued to fight against the Biden Administration, the U.S. Border Patrol Chief has praised the state’s efforts to control the border crisis and expressed there’s no better partner than the Texas Department of Safety.
Strange Dairy Cow Illness
A strange flu-like illness has impacted dairy cows throughout the Texas Panhandle and New Mexico, resulting in a 20% decline in milk production. Ranchers, veterinarians, and state officials are actively working to diagnose the issue.
Executives for the American Association of Bovine Practitioners noted the mysterious sickness lasts around ten to fourteen days and tends to affect older cows. Experts have ruled out pneumonia and mastitis and have determined the illness causes older cows to eat considerably less than usual.
As state officials continue to work with the USDA, dairy operatorsare urged to look for key signs of this unnamed sickness. These include a sudden decline in cow appetite and a drastic loss in total milk production.
Texas AG in Pre-Trial Negotiations
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has begun pre-trial negotiations with prosecutors to avoid jail time for a nearly ten-year fraud case. In 2015, he was charged with three counts of fraud against a McKinney tech company.
If the deal goes through, Paxton would agree to pay the plaintiffs restitution, complete community service, and complete legal education courses. While no further details have been released, the proposed deal would be a win for Paxton.
While this case may be near a conclusion, the AG is still under a federal corruption investigation and faces more legal hurdles within the state.

➤ Houston: City and state officials have announced that the Loop 610 ramp connection to I-69 northbound will be closed for around three months. The closure is part of a $259 million interchange project that seeks to widen the connector ramps by adding another lane. (More)
➤ Dallas: A $1.25 billion bond package was released to the public by city leadership. This comes a month ahead of early voting for ten propositions listed, ranging from street improvements to homeless initiatives. Early voting is set to last from April 22-30, with election day on May 4. (See the list)
➤ Midland has been ranked No. 1 in job growth for the entire state, with an unemployment rate of only 2.9%. Governor Abbott recently highlighted the achievement, attributing Midland’s success to its high wages and support to the county. (Video)

The exemption could revolutionize the farming industry, as drones can theoretically perform tasks like seeding and spraying at a much lower price-point than tractors. (More)
➤ The state added nearly 50,000 jobs in February, according to the Texas Workforce Commission. Business services, private education, and healthcare services drove over 20,000 of the 49,800 new jobs. (More)
