When you think of German chocolate cake, Texas may not be the first place that comes to mind. But surprisingly, this delicious dessert actually originated right here in the Lone Star State. It all started in 1852 when a man named Sam German created a type of dark baking chocolate in the US. Years later, a Texas homemaker added this chocolate to a cake recipe and dubbed it “German’s chocolate cake.” The recipe was eventually published in a Dallas newspaper and quickly gained popularity.
