A Delaware judge struck down Elon Musk’s $55.8 billion pay package at Tesla, ruling that the compensation process at the publicly traded company was “deeply flawed.” Tesla stock dropped nearly 3% on the news.
Musk’s status as one of the world’s richest men was tied to his stock holdings at Tesla, and it’s unclear how Tesla’s board now plans to compensate Musk. The vesting structure of the pay package, the largest in public corporate history, was meant to keep him focused on Tesla.
The judge’s ruling was in response to a stockholder lawsuit filed five years ago claiming Musk worked out his compensation with friends on the company’s board. His lawyers argued that the performance targets in the package were considered almost unreachable.
Musk can appeal, but he had this to say for now: “Never incorporate your company in the state of Delaware.”
Biden Says He’s Decided on Iran Response
President Biden told reporters he’s decided how the U.S. will respond to the deadly drone strike that killed three American soldiers in Jordan, but he didn’t offer any details.
U.S. officials indicated the response could occur as soon as this week and hit multiple targets. National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said the administration wanted to avoid war with Iran, but the attack couldn’t stand unanswered.
There have been more than 150 attacks on U.S. personnel and positions within the Middle East since October. Biden says he believes the assaults are being carried out by proxies of the Iranian government.
Amazon TV: Watch Ads or Pay a Fee
Amazon Prime Video began charging subscribers an extra 2.99 a month Monday to remove ads from its programming.
Pushback to the move was fierce on social media. Customers pay their $14.99 a month to Prime for free shipping and, until now, the ad-free TV service was thrown in for free.
Amazon has 200 million Prime subscribers, making it one of the biggest ad platforms available. Analysts said the ads could generate an extra $3 billion-$4 billion in the next two years, plus another $500 million of fees to avoid ads.
