The Calcagno brothers, Franco and Gianni, represent the most exciting part of the development of the fine wine scene on the north side of the Etna. They’re a sixth-generation Sicilian family with a small cellar in the village of Passopisciaro and own GORGEOUS, old-vine, pre-phylloxera holdings in the grand cru Contrada of Feudo di Mezzo and Arcuria. In 2006, they bottled their first family production and moved away from selling grapes in bulk. Viniculture is 100% organic and the wines are classics! A blend of 95% Nerello Mascalese with 5% Nerello Cappuccio, natural co-fermentations with ambient yeast and aged in large neutral cask. The increase in ‘wine activity’ in the area has buoyed many local families and the future is very bright at this tiny Domaine. Winemaker Alessandro Bianco recently joined the family after working in the cellars with Andrea Franchetti at Passopisciaro and is taking the wines to new heights.

These wines are excellent! A wine everyone should try once to see the true terroir of Etna. Take a chance and see if your palate enjoys these beautiful indigenous varietals.

From the vinification of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio grapes, at a controlled temperature, after 12 months in oak barrels (20 HL) and refinement in the bottle for at least 4 months, Arcuria is born. A fresh and harmonious red wine, with a delicate taste and a fruity aroma with notes of cherry and raspberry.

Barbaresco Wine Dinner

Chateau Cellars is proud to welcome owner/winemaker Giorgio Pelissero for a night of Nebbiolo.

The Pelissero family has been cultivating vineyards in Treiso, in the heart of the Barbaresco DOCG appellation, for three generations and now Giorgio manages the vineyards, makes the wine, and runs the marketing of his family’s label in more than 50 countries. These are some of the finest expressions of Barbaresco being made today with more 95+ point scores than any other producer.

Join us in Ybor on Wednesday, January 31st at 6:30pm where Giorgio will present his wines from Piedmont along with a wonderful 3-course Piedmontese dinner prepared by Chef Viet.

On Tuesday February 13th at 6:30pm Beaune’s Wine Bar will host Norie Chinea from the world famous Laurent Perrier Champagne house as she leads us through the world of sparkling wines featuring the 100pt Tête de cuvée The Grand Siecle no 26.

A 4 course meal expertly designed to compliment the wines will be prepared by our favorite Chef Viet Vo.
