Hard Truth Distilling Co. began distilling in 2015 in the small upper rooms of Big Woods Pizza Co. in downtown Nashville, Indiana. The tiny craft distillery quickly grew, and, by 2017, construction had begun on a new facility set on a rolling, wooded, 325-acre property about a mile away from Hard Truth’s original home. They moved to that new facility in 2018 and have been distilling delicious sweet mash bourbons and ryes since.
While in the process of getting their new distillery up and running, Master Distiller Bryan Smith worked closely with a Kentucky distillery to produce a small number of sweet mash whiskey barrels with unique Hard Truth mash bills. Only 12 barrels were made with this specific mashbill, and they’ve all come and gone. Today, we have a special treat.
Our friends Kenny and Ryan from the Bourbon Pursuit Podcast/Pursuit Spirits selected this barrel back in June of 2022, and as happens sometimes, assumed it was lost to never be seen again. A few months ago we got word that it was ready for pickup and the rest is history! This is a 5-year sweet mash Kentucky Bourbon coming in at 112.4 proof, and we are excited for it to be the first example of Hard Truth here at Seelbach’s.
Nose vanilla custard and a perfumed rose, with honey, candied orange, melon.
Palate is buttery and chewy – lemon and orange peel, clove, with red fruits and a coating brown sugar sweetness.
The finish is spiced, fruity, and creamy.
