Explosion in Downtown Fort Worth
On Monday, a blast occurred in the basement of the Sandman Signature Hotel in downtown Fort Worth, causing windows on the first and second floors to shatter. Twenty-one individuals were either hospitalized or received treatment at the scene.
A representative from the Fort Worth Fire Department stated that the incident was attributed to a gas explosion. However, the precise cause is still being investigated with the support of the arson unit, ATF, and FBI. It’s unclear whether the gas leak preceded the explosion or resulted from it. (Video)
Steve Montgomery, CEO of the Fort Worth Chamber, expressed his concern, “Our sympathies are with the businesses and individuals affected by today’s incidents in the center of Fort Worth. Homeland Security Chief Visits Border
Alejandro Mayorkas, the Secretary of Homeland Security, visited the border near Eagle Pass yesterday.
He met with local officials and border patrol agents to answer questions about the Biden administration’s response to the border crisis, and he admitted that 85% of illegal immigrants are eventually released in the US.
Mayorkas is currently the subject of impeachment proceedings in the House of Representatives, and a hearing is scheduled for Wednesday that will detail the nationwide impact of the illegal immigration surge.
Severe Weather Slams Texas
A massive cold front is expected to sweep through North Texas, potentially bringing snow, ice, and extremely cold temperatures for the first time this winter. Meteorologist David Bonnette from the National Weather Service in Fort Worth warned that the Metroplex will experience a sharp temperature decline.
Throughout the Central Texas region, wind speeds are reaching up to 50 miles per hour.
Due to severe thunderstorms in the greater Houston area, multiple airports have delayed or canceled various operations. According to FlightAware, adverse weather resulted in 418 delays and 86 cancellations at Bush Airport, with Hobby Airport reporting 189 delays and four cancellations.
