Dear RJ,
What a year it has been! Even though 2023 was an off-year for elections, we stayed busy. From Congressional special elections and state elections in Virginia to local mayoral and city council races in Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina, we found ourselves getting out the vote for 13 elections in 5 states!
Together, we connected 1.2 million voters of color in 2023. We:
- Wrote over 550,000 postcards
Made over 325,000 calls
Sent over 325,000 text messages
And we saw the impact of our work. In Virginia, the districts that we called and postcarded were leaders in Early Voting for both the primary and general elections. Turnout among Black voters in the primary election increased between 3% and 10% where we worked, with voters calling our dedicated line and thanking us for providing the where and when they could vote early.
Democracy is on the ballot in 2024, and the stakes are higher than ever. As always, turnout will be the key to preserving our democracy. Our work in Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama will be critical. Our ability to add Texas, Arizona, and Florida depends on funding for data purchases. Look for major new announcements and projects in 2024!
Voting by itself was never enough. In 2024, we will roll out a new program to hold the people we elect accountable for the votes they make as our elected representatives. In partnership with the Workers Circle, we will kick off the New Year with a webinar on Thursday, January 11 at 7 pm Eastern/4 pm Pacific called How To Be An Effective Citizen Advocate from Your Hometown. RSVP here!
