Toy closets at our Banner Children’s medical centers provide a well-deserved reward to children like Charlotte and Piper (pictured right) while undergoing cancer treatment.
A brave and spunky little girl, Charlotte was diagnosed with Pre-B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at age 4. Since her diagnosis, she has been undergoing treatment at Banner Children’s at Thunderbird, with frequent in-patient stays. Charlotte’s journey has been made gentler by the support of our Child Life team. After a challenging procedure or achieving a milestone, her trip to the Toy Closet to choose her own toy means the world to her.
Piper received the 2023 Banner Children’s Healthy Hero Award at this year’s Pulse of the City Soiree. Two years ago she was diagnosed with neuroblastoma that was successfully treated, only to return as stage 4, high-risk, metastatic cancer. After extensive treatment at Banner Children’s and a brave battle for the entire family, Piper is now, at age 8, in a category known as NED: No Evidence of Disease.
