A Maricopa woman reported missing last month was found dead near the Butterfield Station Landfill west of the city. Police have identified the woman as 38-year-old Crystal Uptain and said that the investigation into her death continues after the discovery of “suspicious circumstances” at the scene of where her body was found.
Also, big changes are likely on the horizon for Pinal as many of the county’s communities continue to grow. Eloy’s city council got a close look at what those changes might mean for the future of transportation in the region at Monday’s council meeting. According to a presentation given by Amy Moran with Wilson & Company to council, it is believed that over the next 25 years there will be three times as many people and three times as many jobs in the area. One project that hopes to help ease some of the growing pains is the Sun Corridor Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Regional Transportation Plan, which covers the communities of Casa Grande, Coolidge, Eloy and rural portions of Pinal County. And there was some good news both for the Coolidge Fire Department and residents of the community this month. On Dec. 4, the national insurance rating organization Insurance Services Office, or ISO, upgraded the department’s insurance rating from Class 4 to Class 3.
