Congress has 4 working days left to pass a funding bill in order to avert a government shutdown at midnight this Friday.
Extremists in the House are pushing deep cuts to services like Head Start, K-12 education, mental health services, and WIC. The last thing we need is a government shutdown over right-wing demands.
And while many members of Congress are focused only on the cost of each program, we’re focused on the human lives that each program serves. Does your family receive nutrition assistance or rely on Head Start? What about veterans’ benefits, child care, or housing? Or, do you depend on Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid?1

1 Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid benefits will not cease in a shutdown. But if you are having a problem or need to share information to maintain eligibility, it will be much harder to reach staff to get the help you need.
