It wasn’t but a few months ago that we had a delicious single barrel of one of Blake’s favorites, ASW’s Georgia Heartwood. The Atlanta distillery is back again with the introduction of their Toasted Series.
Fiddler Toasted Bourbon is comprised of 4 barrels of their high-wheat mash bill, first aged for nearly 6 years in charred white oak barrels before being transferred into Char 1 Heavily Toasted barrels where they sat for 3 months.
The nose is a toasty creme brûlée dream.
Freshly charred oak, big vanilla and rich custard creaminess, raspberry.
The palate is heavy toasted influence but huge cakey sweetness. You may think that sounds sickly sweet but I assure you, it isn’t. Beautiful balance, big brown sugar and vanilla bomb with toasted maple lingering. I’m sure there are some fruit notes I could pull out, but why would you when it is just so indulgent and creamy?
The finish is long and trailing, decadent and desserty in the best way possible balanced with perfect savoriness. This just might be my favorite toasted product.
Fiddler Toasted Rye also comprises of 4 barrels of a 95% rye and 5% malted barley mash bill, which aged for 6+ years in charred white oak barrels, then was finished for 6 months in Char 1 Heavily Toasted barrels.
Elegant citrus, layered spices, toasted vanilla bean and gingerbread cookies.
Charred maple, barrel char, and classic citrus spice – this is everything you love about 95/5 with a bit more savory flare and a balanced, flavor profile. There is plenty here to explore, but a toasted maple foundation keeps everything in check.
The linger is subtly juicy fruit, creamy oak-kissed brown sugar. This a perfectly composed toasted rye, highly recommended.
Fiddler Amburana Finished Bourbon is the same high-wheat mash bill, first aged in white oak before being transferred to an Amburana wood barrel from Brazil.
There’s no denying the nose if you are accustomed to Amburana. Tropical fruit, fresh cinnamon rolls, and a myriad of complex spices.
The palate is rich and coating, rolling over the tongue with ease. Fresh cinnamon pastry, poetic spices, and chewy, vanilla forward sweetness continuing. The combination of wheat forward profile and amburana makes this so desserty.
The finish is long and trailing, sweet, gently spiced, and nuanced. This is a wonderfully composed amburana finish.
