Trump Rally to Compete with Debate
Donald Trump will again counter-program the GOP presidential debate, this time scheduling a rally in Hialeah, Florida—an area with many Hispanic voters—at the same time as the third debate on Nov. 8 in Miami.
NBC is hosting the debate this time, and so far, only four candidates have qualified: Trump, Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, and Vivek Ramaswamy. Seven others are still struggling to reach the polling and donation goals.
Trump remains the front-runner by a large margin, with 58% support. DeSantis is second with 12.3%, and Haley is just behind at 11%, according to the latest USA Today poll.
NY Times Admits Errors in Gaza Coverage
The New York Times has walked back its initial coverage of the hospital bombing in Gaza, admitting in an unusual editor’s notethat it “relied too heavily on claims” made by Hamas.
Other news organizations, including AP and Reuters, did the same, accepting Hamas’ claim that the blast was a “horrific massacre” by the Israelis. The media operations now say all evidence points to an errant Gaza missile landing in the hospital parking lot.
The Times says its coverage left readers with an “incorrect impression.” Critics pointed out that the Times still employs a Mideast correspondent who praised Adolf Hitler several times on Facebook.
Off-Duty Pilot Tries to Crash Passenger Jet
An off-duty Alaska Airlines pilot was charged with 83 counts of attempted murder after trying to crash a flight to San Francisco by turning off the engines. The actual pilots stopped him and made an emergency landing in Portland.
The off-duty pilot, 44-year-old Joseph Emerson, was in the jump seat in the cockpit when he tried to interfere with the engines. After subduing him, the pilots asked law enforcement to meet them when they landed in Portland.
The Alaska Airlines plane, operated by Horizon Air, was carrying 80 passengers and four crew members from Everett, Washington, to S.F. No injuries were reported, and the motive remains unclear.
