After dropping out of high school, determined to leave an environment of gangs and poverty, she became a mentee and job trainee at Chicanos Por La Causa and Phoenix Job Corps. She went on to earn a position in higher education, where she held various roles for almost 20 years. In her roles today, she works to spread the message about social capital and community inequities. In 2021, Angela was named an ALPFA National Latina Rising Star.
