Peter – last week, the Wall Street Journal dropped a bombshell that doesn’t surprise any of us. They got their hands on a trove of documents showing the lengths that Exxon and other big oil companies have gone to in order to deceive the public by hiding what they knew about how their actions were driving the climate crisis.
Big Oil executives funded research that would promote fossil fuels and went after scientists who tried to sound the alarm. And, of course, they lobbied and donated to politicians who would support their lies. One of them is David Schweikert.
David Schweikert has taken over $175,000 from Big Oil. And they have gotten their money’s worth. Schweikert has called climate change “folklore,” says the Democratic Party is “owned by the green mafia,” and consistently voted to stop investment in clean energy. We deserve better.
I’m running for Congress to stand up to Big Oil – and you can know that I’ll do it because I’ve done it before. I spent the past decade building a company that helped millions of people be able to move billions of dollars away from financing oil drilling and pipelines.
This past week in New York and cities around the world, we saw the largest climate protests since before the pandemic. And this week, world leaders are meeting at the United Nations with a goal to address climate change.
