This year proved we are currently living within multiple devastating crises on our planet. Our most critical environmental law needs to be updated to meet new challenges head-on.
Scorching temperatures are deadly worldwide, climate change-fueled wildfires have devastated communities. The U.N. warned that rising sea levels could jeopardize entire countries’ populations. Scientists raised the alarm about the survival of species ranging from pine trees to rare dolphins. Now, more than ever, we need to speak up to protect our communities from the devastating consequences of the climate and extinction crises.
For almost 50 years, the National Environmental Policy Act has helped protect us—by empowering people to weigh in on decisions that affect our environment and our communities.
The Trump administration severely gutted this bedrock environmental law in those dark days. And now, the current administration is not only putting it back together, but also modernizing it to meet the needs of communities while also tackling the environmental crises of today.
Now it’s time to make sure the law’s implementation is modernized to fully consider climate impacts, respect Tribal sovereignty and more.
Thank you,
