Imagine trying to call someone without having their phone number. It may seem like a daunting task today, but back when the first telephone book was published, it was the reality. While it may seem strange to us now, the first telephone book, published in New Haven, Connecticut in 1878, did not actually contain any phone numbers. Instead, it was a simple listing of businesses and individuals who owned telephones.
